The Northern California coastline and 70˚ weather were the perfect backdrop for this year’s Reining by the Bay held July 21-26 at The Horse Park in Woodside. Along with a packed slate of ancillary classes, the event once again hosted its signature one-run Derby and Futurity at the popular San Francisco area venue.

2009 PCCHA Derby
Quarter Horse News - April 2009

Fair weather and fine wine were abundant during the 2009 PCCHA Derby, held March 7-14 in Paso Robles, CA. An event rapidly becoming known for its hospitality, great facility and extensive slate of gelding, novice horse and non-pro classes, the early spring show continues to fine tune its new wine country venue in an otherwise grim economic climate. Attended by cutters from a half dozen states and Canada, this year’s PCCHA Derby paid out close to $450,000 in cash and prizes during its 7-day run.

2009 Cactus Classic
Quarter Horse News - April 2009

Gorgeous weather and great prize money set the stage for the 2009 Cactus Reining Classic held at the West World Equidome in Scottsdale, Arizona March 4-8. With $100,000 in added money and its signature one-run derby, the NRHA “A” rated show was a nice kick-off to the spring aged event season for reiners out west.

Longworth - Frozen Embryo Reproduction
Quarter Horse News - April 2009

As advances in reproduction technology forge ahead, a new technique in embryo transfer science has emerged that is giving the procedure a whole new dimension of possibilities. Instead of carefully timing the transfer of an embryo into a recipient mare, embryos can now be “frozen” and stored; much like semen is banked and stored for future use. This new process is called vitrification.

2008 PCCHA Futurity
The Cutter - December 2008

The fall colors of the Paso Robles, California region once more ushered in the PCCHA Golden Hills Auto Center Futurity & Gelding Stakes October 22 – November 2 at the Paso Robles Event Center. Sunny days and chilly nights were the back drop to another stellar event that paid out nearly $1m and featured the most extensive slate of classes available to cutters today.

2008 High Roller Reining Classic

Stakes were high and entries were plenty at the all-new High Roller Reining Classic, which kicked off its inaugural event September 9-14 at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Touted as one of the year’s top 15 NRHA-approved events, the “AA” show was the backdrop to some “surprise” results - and a glimpse at some of the top horses that will be showcased this futurity season.

Fappani Sweeps Open Derby and Futurity
The Reiner - October 2008

Woodside, California. Results from this year’s Reining By The Bay, held July 22-27 in Woodside, California read like “The Andrea Fappani Show” when Fappani, San Marcos, California, and his “boy’s club” of three stallions and one gelding claimed the Championship and Reserve Championships in both the Open Derby and Open Futurity.
