Gorgeous weather and great prize money set the stage for the 2009 Cactus Reining Classic held at the West World Equidome in Scottsdale, Arizona March 4-8. With $100,000 in added money and its signature one-run derby, the NRHA “A” rated show was a nice kick-off to the spring aged event season for reiners out west.

Longworth - Frozen Embryo Reproduction

As advances in reproduction technology forge ahead, a new technique in embryo transfer science has emerged that is giving the procedure a whole new dimension of possibilities. Instead of carefully timing the transfer of an embryo into a recipient mare, embryos can now be “frozen” and stored; much like semen is banked and stored for future use. This new process is called vitrification.

Fair weather and fine wine were abundant during the 2009 PCCHA Derby, held March 7-14 in Paso Robles, CA. An event rapidly becoming known for its hospitality, great facility and extensive slate of gelding, novice horse and non-pro classes, the early spring show continues to fine tune its new wine country venue in an otherwise grim economic climate. Attended by cutters from a half dozen states and Canada, this year’s PCCHA Derby paid out close to $450,000 in cash and prizes during its 7-day run.

As Spring began to emerge onto the rolling hills of the central California wine region, a new era was dawning for PCCHA, who moved their two major aged events to Paso Robles for 2007.
