The Northern California coastline and 70˚ weather were the perfect backdrop for this year’s Reining by the Bay held July 21-26 at The Horse Park in Woodside. Along with a packed slate of ancillary classes, the event once again hosted its signature one-run Derby and Futurity at the popular San Francisco area venue.

2008 High Roller Reining Classic

Stakes were high and entries were plenty at the all-new High Roller Reining Classic, which kicked off its inaugural event September 9-14 at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Touted as one of the year’s top 15 NRHA-approved events, the “AA” show was the backdrop to some “surprise” results - and a glimpse at some of the top horses that will be showcased this futurity season.

Results from this year’s Reining By The Bay, held July 22-27 in Woodside, California read like “The Andrea Fappani Show” when Fappani, San Marcos, California, and his “boy’s club” of three stallions and one gelding claimed the Championship and Reserve Championships in both the Open Derby and Open Futurity.

Fappani Dominates 2008 Reining By The Bay

This year’s Reining By The Bay, held July 22-27 in Woodside, California showcased the talents of California trainer, Andrea Fappani when he dominated the limited age event competition by capturing both Open Derby and Futurity Championships, as well as Open Derby Reserve and Open Futurity Reserve titles worth a total of $20,753.

Dun Playin Tag, the big dun gelding owned by Samantha Griffin of Dewinton, Alberta, Canada, couldn’t be caught at this year’s Cactus Classic when trainer Cody Sapergia guided him to a showy 227.5 to capture the Open Derby championship.

2007 Reining Spectacular

The triple-digit weather wasn’t the only thing hot at the West Coast Reining Spectacular this past August 26 – September 2 in Rancho Murieta, California. As futurity season officially kicked off over the Labor Day weekend, Andrea Fappani made his presence known when he guided Wimpys Little Buddy to the Top Sail Cody Memorial Open Futurity Championship and Dunit Cocky to the Bill and Mary Alice Neal Memorial Open Derby title.
